Kisses From Katie
She had it all: extremely good looking, intelligent, homecoming queen, class president, designer clothes, sports car, top of her class, the college of her choice & she walked away from it all. She walked away from the American Dream to devote her life to missions. Meet Katie Davis...
"With reckless abandon, Katie Davis followed her heart to care for orphans living in extreme poverty in Uganda. Her story captivates the reader to action, join her work and make the world a better place for children, one by one and in the process show that one person can make a difference." Former Senator, William H. Frist M.D.
What would cause an eighteen-year-old senior class president and homecoming queen from Nashville, Tennessee to disappoint her parents by forgoing college, break her family and friends' hearts, lose all but a handful of friends because they thought she went off the deep end and break up with the love of her life, so she could move to Uganda to care for orphans, even though she didn't speak the language and had no idea how this was going to go? Her love of Jesus.
Katie left over Christmas Break of her senior year for a short missions trip to Uganda and her life was turned completely inside out. She found herself so moved by the people of uganda and the needs she saw there, she knew her calling was to return and care for them. She had long admired Mother Teresa for her life work, but didn't realize until then, her life's work would be to follow in Mother Teresa's footsteps in a different time and in a different place.
Katie, a charismatic and articulate young woman, is in the process of adopting thirteen orphan girls, created a "Sponsor a Child" ministry- Amazima Outreach that so far sends 400 poverty stricken children to school, provides for their needs and feeds fifteen hundred more daily. The first thing she noticed was no work and no skills. She is ready to change that. Amazima Ministries has bought land to teach the locals how to farm and market produce, dairy and meat.
Her ministry is in its infancy and already it has given hope to every citizen in Uganda and her example, an inspiration, like ripples in a pond, is circling the globe.
Her book, Kisses From Katie, invites readers on a journey of radical love, down the red dirt roads of Uganda. You'll laugh and cry with Katie as she follows Jesus into the impossible and finds joy, beauty and purpose beneath the dust. Katie and her children delight is saying yes to the people God places in front of them and challenge readers to do the same, changing the world, one person at a time.
"Sometimes I want to spend hours talking with my best friends about boys, fashion, school and life. I want to go to the gym. I want my hair to look nice. I want to be allowed to wear jeans. I want to be a normal young woman living in America... sometimes. But I want other things more.'
"All the time, I want to be spiritually and emotionally filled every day. I want to be loved and cuddled by one hundred children and never go a day without laughing with them. I want to wake up to a rooster's crow and open my eyes to see the lush green trees that seem to pulse with life against a piercing blue sky with the rusty red soil beneath; then I know I am where I am supposed to be. I love the life God has given me.'
"I want to be challenged endlessly. I want to be taught by those I teach and I want to share God's love with the people I have grown to love; wonderful people who might not have otherwise had gotten a chance to know the awesome God I know, love and serve.'
"I want to work so hard that I end every day filthy and too tired to move. I want to make some kind of difference no matter how small and I want to follow the calling that God has placed on my life and in my heart. I want to give my life away for a greater purpose and I want to serve the Lord with each and every breath. At the end of the day, no matter how hard, I want to be right here in Uganda."
Have a great day!
