Life's Railway

I came upon a railway and no one knows where it goes,
I ventured along this lonely rail, why I do not know;
Surely it cannot be the railway to no where,
But I did not know what I would find, when I got there.
As I started along this unknown rail,
I had visions of great things I would see there;
And important people I might meet,
And just where it took me, I did not care.
I drifted along with no thought of tomorrow,
But on this rail, I found so much to my sorrow;
Because I had no destination in mind,
I found it truly was a rail to no where.
After a while of traveling aimlessly along,
I felt empty and so all alone;
And began to wonder why I had spent,
So much time on this rail...
Or if a different rail for me was meant.
I determined right then,
That no more would I go this way;
For I saw a vision of what it might be when,
I have a purpose for where I go today.
What a difference it has made,
When I turned around;
And found a rail that went some where,
And great love and blessings I found-
On this rail to eternity...

Sometimes we ride the rail of life,
Looking out the rear;
Watching miles of life roll by,
And marking every year.
We sit in sad remembrance,
Of wasted days gone by,
And curse our life for what it was,
And hang our head and cry.
But we need not concern ourself with that,
If we take a different vent;
If we look forward to what life holds,
And not what has been spent.

So if the ride gets bumpy,
While we are looking back...
Let's hurry up front, cause we may find,
Our life has jumped the track.

It's all right to remember,
That's part of our history;
But up front's where it's happening,
Cause there's so much mystery...

The enjoyment of living,
Is not where we have been,
It's looking ever forward,
To another year and ten.
So strap us to the engine,
As securely as can be,
We want to be out on the front,
To see what we can see.

We want to feel the winds of change,
Blowing in our face,
We want to see what life unfolds,
As we move from place to place.

We want to see what's coming up,
Not looking at the past,
Life's too short for yesterdays,
It moves along too fast.

It's searching all the byways,
Never should we refrain;
For if we want to live our life,
We've got to drive the train...
